PAGODA
The installation for a Pagoda structure with PVC requires 4 people to carry out the task. The step by step process goes as follows:
- We first place 4 Purlins in the shape of a square.
- Each of the placed purlins has a connector placed on its corner of the square and is attached to them.
- Fourcentrepurlinsare then attached from its bottom end to each of those connectors on its top at an acute angle.
- The top end of the 4 centre purlins are then brought together using a single connector.
- A pipe with a cone is then placed on top of the connector holding the centre purlins.
- The roof PVCis then placed on top of the structure over the cone.
- The pipe along with the cone and the middle connectors are loosened completely and the roof kedar is inserted through each of the four channels of the structure.
- 4 side posts are attached with base plates and are placed on every corner of the square.
- One side of the tent is raised and two of the side posts are attached with the 2 corners of the roof.
- The middle connector is then tightened until the roof PVC is completely stretched.
- The opposite side of the tent is then raised and the remaining 2 side posts are attached.
- Once the structure is up along with the roof PVC, the side PVC covers (or side walls) are installed. The hooks present on the top of the side PVC covers are placed into the top channels of the purlin. The side kedar present at the side of the PVC is then placed inside the side post channel. Both sides of the wall are then held and the ropes present at the centre are tied together to close it.
- The same procedure is repeated with the remaining side walls.
- The ground pipe is then placed inside the side wall pocket present at the bottom of each of the side walls to secure them.
- Pegs (nails)are then hammeredin the hole of the baseplate.
- In the case of the tent being secured using counter weights, a weight block is placed on every corner of the tent from the outside and is attached to the tent and secured using cargo belts.
NPT tent setup
- The first step is to measure the area, then, accordingly, the points of the base plates are marked and placed.
- The roof beams (sets of 2 beams) are then placed in A shape as per the marked areas.
- The middle connector is then fixed at the centre of the two beams using bolts.
- The side connectors are then connected on both sides of the beams using bolts.
- A side post is then attached with the side connector on either side of the roof beam using bolts.
- A baseplate is then fixed to each of the side posts using bolts.
- The cross wires are then connected with bolts at the centre of the beam.
- Two gable posts are then connected at the centre of the beams with bolts for both the gables.
- The same procedure is repeated for the entire structure based on its length (Roof and sides along with the cross wires).
- The centre purlins are placed on the ground at the centre of the tent to attach them with the structure.
- The Pegs (nails) are then hammered through the base plates according to the marked areas.
- In the case of counter weights being used to secure the tent, the weight blocks are placed on the outer side of the base plates using a forklift first and are then secured with the tent using cargo belts once the structure is up and the roof PVC has been installed.
- We use six people in total to raise the first frame. One person stands on each of the side post’s baseplate and remaining four people carry the tent from the centre. Once the frame is up, cross bars are attached on both the side posts of the frame towards the length of the tent.
- The second frame is raised using the same procedure. Once it is up, the centre purlins are attached connecting the first frame with the second frame. Simultaneously, the cross wires and the cross bars are attached to the second frame and are tightened.
- The same procedure is repeated to raise the remaining frames and to connect the centre purlins along with the cross bars and cross wires for the rest of the recommended size of the tent.
- Once the entire frames are up, the gable purlins are attached on the corners and at the centre of the gable.
- Once the frames are installed, they are covered using PVC. There are two stages – the roof and the sides. We initiate by covering the roof. A set of 2 ropes are thrown across the width of the tent within the same bay. A roof PVC is then opened on any one side of the width and tied using those ropes. Two people, using ladders will stay on the same side of the tent as the tied roof PVC and will insert the roof kedar into the roof beam channels whereas, four people in two teams of two will be on the opposite side of the tent pulling the PVC using the ropes. Both teams will be pulling the ropes with the same intensity. When two metres of the roof PVC is remaining to be pulled, both the teams stop pulling and wait for the side tension tube to be inserted into the roof pocket by the team on the ladders opposite to them. Once, the tube is inserted, they pull the PVC completely and insert the tension tubes on their side as well. Both the tension tubes are then simultaneously attached to the hooks on either side of the tent.
- The same procedure is repeated for the rest of the roof PVC’s.
- Once the roof PVC’s are completed, the gable PVC’s are installed. Each set of gable consists of 2 triangular shaped PVC’s. We start with one triangle of the gable PVC, the top edge of the PVC is tied with the rope and pulled to the centre as the top side of the PVC has kedar which is placed into the channel of the roof beam. We repeat the same process with the second triangle of the gable. The PVC’s are then tightened using ropes. The tension tubes are then inserted into the lower pockets of the gable and the tension machines are attached with the gable posts to tighten it.
- We repeat the same process for the other gable set as well.
- The tension pipes for the side walls are then inserted into the pocket present at the bottom of the sidewalls and are secured with the base plates using nut and bolts.
- Repeat the same procedure for rest of the sidewalls.
- After completing all the sidewalls, the roof tensions for the entire tent are tightened (If counter-weights are being used, they are then secured using cargo belts.
